Vitae, Highlights:
  • Research: Received $3.0 million in externally funded awards as principal or co-principal investigator (Triangle Community Foundation, Gates Foundation, Burroughs-Wellcome Fund, NSF STEM+C, NSF-CNS, NC Department of Public Instruction)
  • Scholarship: Published 100+ book chapters, journal articles, conference proceedings, and technical reports
  • Teaching/Presenting: Developed and taught 8 different online courses for LDT programs; presented 120+ conference papers/posters/workshops; named a 2014 i3@UNC Faculty Fellow by UNC Online for online course development; awarded the 2015 NC State Gertrude Cox Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching & Learning with Technology; invited to serve as Visiting Lecturer by Charles University Faculty of Education, Department of Information Technology and Technical Education (November 2017)
  • Mentoring: Chaired or co-chaired 12 dissertation committees to completion, served on 20 additional completed dissertation committees; chaired 2 thesis committees to completion, advised more than 80 graduated master's students; currently chairing 8 active dissertation committees, and serving on 5 additional dissertation committees; finalist for university's 2018 outstanding graduate faculty mentor award
  • Leadership: Served as Coordinator of LDT programs for 7 years (2008-2015); current Coordinator of LDT doctoral program (2018-present) and new undergraduate program (2019-present); led effort to move master's program online with redesigned curriculum and online course development; lead developer of LDT doctoral program area of study (PAS) and curriculum; collaborated on a new undergraduate sub-plan in LDT and finalized application for a 4+1 accelerated bachelor's to master's program; collaborating on planned certificate in data science
  • Entrepreneurship: Led a faculty team through NC State's NSF iCorps program to needs assess locative narrative applications with area educators (2018); founded start-up company Spatial Media through NC State's Sweat Equity Challenge program for software development, collaborated with Durham design firm Pathos/Ethos on preliminary wireframe development (2019)
  • Extension: Led 7 professional development study abroad programs for 128 in-service teachers in England, Finland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic (2011, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19) with recurring funding in place for future programming under the program name CIDRE (2020); awarded a 2016 NC State Outstanding Extension Service Award; inducted into NC State Academy of Outstanding Faculty Engaged in Extension (AOFEE); three-time nominee for university's global engagement award (2017, 2018, 2019)
  • Service: Review for 3 editorial boards (ETR&D, Journal of Digital Learning in Teacher Ed, Journal of Online Learning Research); served as the research chair for ISTE's Global Collaboration Professional Learning Network (2016-17); current committees--Building, Equipment, Safety, & Space (college-level), college RPT committee (elected), department awards committee (elected), and university Online Learning Environments working group (invited)
