About the Panel Solicitation

Panelist registration was closed on January 15th, 2001, with 66 Engineering instructors from over 40 institutions completing round one of this online gap analysis. 56 of 66 panelists also completed round two of this gap analysis for a return rate of 85%. We formally targeted participation from Engineering instructors teaching Web-based continuting education courses through the American Society for Engineering Education (AASE) (Eric Iversen--contact) and the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) (Peter Wiesner--contact). Both ASEE and IEEE are DLNET grant partners. Bob Zeidman, President of the Chalkboard Network, assisted with marketing this gap analysis to Engineering instructors preparing distance and Web-based courses for their e-learning portal. To further market the analysis, we requested further marketing support from the Directors of the eight National Science Foundation Engineering Education Coalitions. More specifically, we extracted every Engineering faculty e-mail address from the Engineering departmental Web pages of the nine southeastern SUCCEED coalition schools (1600+ faculty). To generate a more national sample, we also extracted Engineering faculty e-mail addresses from 5-6 additional institutions located in the Midwest, West, and Southwest (450+ faculty). These e-mail addresses were used to solicit further faculty participation in the project.
