My name is Kevin Oliver, Professor of Learning, Design, and Technology at NC State. I have worked at NC State since 2005, teaching online courses in the College of Education's Learning Design & Technology programs (B.S., M.Ed., M.S., Ph.D.). Current courses taught include: theory and research in distance education, cultural investigations and technical representations in education, technology and informal learning environments, and teaching and learning with digital video. My research examines student acquisition of cultural and scientific outcomes in technology-rich distant (online/abroad) and informal learning settings. See my "Major Projects" page for more details on specific efforts.
Personal Interests: sports; travel (all 50 states; most national parks; most Canadian provinces; extensively in England, Finland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic as a study abroad instructor); outdoors (landscaping, hiking, dog walking); music (former high school and Tennessee marching band geek); history/genealogy; amateur art (photography, pottery, glass, fabric); e-biking with friends in area parks/greenways; and spelunking for treasure in second hand shops and flea markets. I live in the Leesville community of northwest Raleigh with my better half of 16 years. |
